THE VILLAGE OF GARDZIENICE
The village of Gardzienice lies 32 km southeast of Lublin in an area divided by numerous hills, deep ravines and valleys of Giełczew. Administratively it falls under Świdnik county and Piaski municipality.
Piaski are the nearest urban centre, three kilometres away. Twenty kilometres from the village converge three major geographical formations - North European Plain, Lesser Polish Upland and East European Plain. Many centuries ago trade routes passed through this area, road from West to East used since the Middle Ages, and a trail connecting the Black Sea ports with Baltic, already known in the thirteenth century.
